Does anyone else on the Tenerife Forum like classical music?

Although I'm an out and out rocker there are a lot of classical pieces I really like. I particularly like Prokofiev's Dance of the Knights from Romeo and Juliet, but my all time favourite has to be Tchaikovsky's #1 Piano Concerto.
I love a lot of the "heavy" classical stuff and have Rainbow's rock version of Beetoven's Ode to Joy - an instrumental called "Difficult to Cure".
Do other forum members have diverse tastes too?

Hola from one very committed opera fan ... spent two weeks in Berlin a few years ago where they performed 10 of Wagners operas

Anybody keen on the classics should check out my link to a fabulous production of Carmen online (only available for the next 6 days)

The most memorable (and the most expensive) theatre experience ever for me was seeing the Ring Cycle in Bayreuth. It took me 3 years to get the tickets. Living in Germany meant I could spend as much time as I liked hearing opera and orchestral concerts.

J.S. Bach - Cello Suites, B Minor Mass, Brandenburg Concertos, in fact pretty much anything by Bach

Mozart - Piano Concerto in C major (can't remember the number, but it's the one with the slow movement used in the film 'Edvira Madegan')

Beethoven - 7th Symphony

Mahler - 5th Symphony (slow movement used in "Death in Venice")

Stravinsky - Le Sacre de Printemps (the first ever and best ever piece of rock music)

Vaughan Williams - The Lark Ascending (the most perfect evocation of English countryside ever)

and many,many more.

I have been applying for the last 8 years for tickets for Bayreuth ... I gather I should be near the top in the next year or so and finally get some tickets.

Most expensive opera tickets ... Salzburg - 360 euros

Wagner's got some good tunes, but how can you take anything seriously when it's sang by a fat lady with horns on her head

I do like classical music, but I feel there is a time and a place for it. Having a dinner party with it playing in the background is great. In the car when no one else is with me again is lovely. A bath with candles and classical music playing, perfect.
