What a beautiful day here in Germany for November.
After lunch today i went for a walk. Despite being late Autumn it is a lovely sunny warm day. It is 15degrees and i went with a t-shirt and sandles. i walked up the hills behind the town ( the Schutterwald) and it was as clear and sharp. looking east i could see the Rhine and the Voges mountains in France. South I could see the outline of the Swiss alps, looking north I was looking into the foothills of the Black forest and north was small towns and villages dotted up the valley as far as Baden-Baden. Looking down on the town the Plane trees, poplars, oak, ash, sycamore, silver birch etc are all holding onto their gold, red and yellow leaves and as we have not had a frost yet the lines of vines are still green against the hill. I shall so so miss working here

It is a lovely area. People do not think of Germany as a holiday destination but it has a lot to offer to people who are not looking for a beach type break!

Over 2,000 privately owned breweries here so no shortage of beer. The local one here in the Black Forest is Röthaus Tannensaphler which translates as Red House Juice of the Fir Cone-which it is not but is a very nice easy to drink lager and at 2.40 a bottle is half the price of a bottle of lager in Ireland!!

My memories of the Swartzwald (sp?) are winter frost and beautiful scenery. I would swap with you for a couple of hours right now @mac

Yes could just do a swap. You could head up to Zarko's restaurant for a rump steak with fried potatoes followed by Black Forest Icecream with cherry schnapps poured over it, and I could buy a pizza in Bella Roma, and sit on my terracce watching the sun go down behind La Gomera.....are you on for it!!!!!!

One of the most memorable journies I have made is the train from Frankfurt down the left bank of the Rhein in October or November, can't remember which. The scenery was breathtaking, and I could not imagine there could be so many different shades of autumn brown of the trees. Working in Darmstadt, I often had to attend meetings in Amsterdam. My collegues always flew, and all thought I was nuts because I insisted on going by train. They had no idea what they were missing.
