Tomorrow is Guy Fawkes night are you doing anything for it?
This will be my 3rd Guy Fawkes in Tenerife and I've noticed very little celebration considering how many expats live here. Is anyone planning anything tomorrow night?
My last one in the UK was in Glasgow. At the time we lived in an apartment next to the Clyde. Most of the walls were glass and we had amazing views. The fireworks were constant from about 6pm until after midnight. It seemed that in our last few years in the UK November 5th seemed to be celebrated more and more. Do you think it's another example of "commercialism"?
don't think the Spanish celebrate it and I am not sure if you are allowed to buy and let off fireworks here without a licence.......

Oh i used to love Bonfire night as a kid, loves the smell in the air of Crispy Jacket spuds and hotdogs with fried onions. Fantastic fireworks albeit a little quieter than the ones they use these days. The Catherine wheel was my favourite. We always used to make a proper guy to put on the fire, not like the ones the kids use nowadays just a plastic carrier bag with a face drawn on it. It was a real community affair. Not seen anything here in Tenerife but if there is i'd love to know about it.
Hey Tink what a coincidance as we were only taking about that last night.Left Mrs A on settee after she passed out when we got home

I always used to look forward getting all dressed up for the cold, hat, scarf, gloves, wellies etc but as i got older and the weather started becoming so unpredictable for the time year, i found myself getting rather hot

Somehow I don't think that the ceremonial burning of an effigy of a catholic would go down very well here.....
Could be interesting
I doubt many celebrating would even know the story behind Guy Fawkes let alone the fact that he was Catholic. This is also very true of many age old traditional celebrations.
I do get the impression though that the Spanish uphold the traditional elements of their many celebrations and know the true meaning behind what they are celebrating.
