The world-famous Red Arrows have been banned from appearing at the 2012 London Olympics because they are deemed "too British".

Organisers of the event say that the Arrows military background might be "offensive" to other countries taking part in the Games. The display team have performed at more than 4000 events worldwide, but the Department of Culture, Media and Sport have deemed the display team "too militaristically British". Red Arrows pilots were said to be "outraged", as they had hoped to put on a truly world class display for the Games, something which had never been seen before. Being axed from a British-based event for being "too British" is an insult - the Arrows are a symbol of Britain.

The Red Arrows have been excellent ambassadors for British overseas trade, as they display their British-built Hawk aircraft all over the world.

The Arrows performed a short flypast in 2005 when the winning bid was announced, but their flypast at the Games was to have been truly spectacular.

It is to be hoped that common sense prevails

Could you imagine telling the locals here that the "Romeria" was too Canarian so it will be banned. There would be thousands on the streets within hours!

Sadly in the Uk people are lazy and all they do is fill in petitions from their cosy homes on their PC.

Is it too British, probably yes but so what?

Did anyone ever need any more proof that these are the London not the British Olympics, and were never intended to be of any relevance, or benefit, to anywhere else in the UK?

Got to agree with Janet.
What about the giant mosque that the muslim 'community' are planning to build at the olympic site? Reportedly it will be 3 storey's high, and will be able to hold up to 60,000 people (depending which paper you read), and with muslims buying property in the area already, it is likely to become a 'no - go' area for non muslims.
Very British!!!!!!!

Meanwhile, the Kingsway International Christian Centre, which regularly has up to 12,000 worshippers every sunday, is being knocked down to make way for the olympic stadium.

I cant believe what im reading!! The worlds gone mad,I will happily sign the petition,I take my children to lowestoft,cromer,and sometimes to bournmouth to see these incredible pilots with there machines,As far as im awrae they display all over,Bulgaria ,switzerland,gibralter etc...AHHH it makes me so mad!!!

What a shame, a nicer bunch of lads you couldn't meet.

My Nephew and I were very lucky to be allowed onto the base at Scampton around 5 years ago.

We were given a guided tour of the base, taken to the bottom of the runway to watch the display and then into the control tower for the remainder of the practise.

After having lunch with the guys, we were invited into the debriefing and finished off with a tour of the workshops and my nephew got to sit in one of the planes.

What a great day out.

As for the decission, I guess the world really has gone mad.

I saw the Red Arrows several times in Birmingham (royal Agricultural Show) in several years we went .
They put on a marvelous display every time .
What a shame they can`t performe .
