Yes I've been. It was back in 1999 or was it 98 I stayed at the Jumeirah beach hotel, which was spectacular. Believe now there's lots more hotels to similar standards.
If you like shopping & pool/beach holidays you'll enjoy it - lots of bargains to be had, especially gold & designer wear.
I made a big mistake by going on my own, it really restricted what I could do/where I could go, and my blonde hair got me a dozen marriage proposals a day!!
For something really different, read the local paper and go to the main square on Sunday and you can see them dishing out various corporal & capital punishments No, I didn't go!!
I haven't been personally but my husbands Aunt and Uncle are regular visitors to Dubai. Apparently the trick is to get hold of one of the waiters/waitresses from your hotel [not literally] put some money in their hand and ask them to look after you during your stay. The first time they did this they said the service they received from this waiter was second to none. On subsequent visits this waiter has treated them like royalty every time. Obviously he knows he is going to be rewarded at the end of their stay but they say it is a small price to pay for the service the receive.
If I can ask them anything about Dubai on your behalf let me know.

Anyone ever been to Dubai? Flights are starting on 1st September from Newcastle and only taking 7 hours, Anyone with any thoughts on the place
Been going for thirty years, mainly business, seen lots of changes, but still one of my favourite places, now very modern very clean and very safe. Most hotels are a high standard, but drinks prices are sky high (you can only drink in Hotels), Dont go July through to end of September, it is to hot and humid to be comfortable outside, thats why prices are cheap during these months.
I was there for a week in February on business. The weather is very pleasant that time of year. It's really too hot in the summer. The jeep safari into the desert is worth it if you like rollercoasters! You can also go skiing as they have a big indoor ski centre. The traffic is a nightmare in the rush hour so try to avoid it. The old part across the creek is worth an afternoons visit, get the small boats across, very cheap.
I have stayed there on several occasions on business at both Jumaira Beach and Burj al Arab it is probably one of the finest places I have stayed other than the Al Bustahn Palace in Oman.
