The 2007 UK Foot & Mouth Outbreak.

Just seen on Sky breaking news, another outbreak of Foot & Mouth in Surrey.
No more details as yet, I just wonder when this awful week will finish ?

In accordance with the legislation, all the cattle on the premises will be culled,
A protection zone, three kilometers in radius, and a surveillance zone of 10 kilometers has been placed around the premises.

A national movement ban of all ruminants and pigs has been imposed.

Lets hope some lessons have been learned from the last time and its dealt with swiftly and correctly,as the last time it was devastating to the rural economy and tourism in the UK....

Thanks janet.. thick or what!

I only pray they get it right this time is was dreadful driving through wales and not seeing all the sheep and cattle in the fields. My son was transporting livestock last time and he says it was something he never wants to be called upon to do again... he will never forget it.

I am surprised, with all the precautions in place that breakouts like this can happen, I thought they were going to imunise the animals to stop this happening.

They can immunize all livestock against F&M but once they do that they cannot export into the EEC,and we have just managed to start the trade up again, thus causing all Farmers more problems....
