Mini_cin will have to undergo an emergency OP and i canīt be with her
i feel a bad now cos i got a call from my mum telling me that ida has to have an emergency operation later this week and i canīt be at her side, since she is in prague for another month. we knew it would sooner or later happen, according to specialists she would have got a timpanoplasty made at the age of 14/15, since she is still growing, but my mum had taken her to see the doctor cos her hearings got really worse and above all pus started to come out of her left ear, though she didnīt have any pain at all. the doctor, who is a specialist, sent her immediately into the hospital to get further tests done, where they found out that the infection is so advanced that they canīt wait any longer. her earbones need to be replaced as well, because some of the earbones are not only clogged, but also missing ( deterioted). The pus is so far inside of her ear, that it would be only a matter of short period of time when it possibly could affect the brain. according to the doctors it is still a mechanical thing which an operation can sort out, but waiting any longer and it would affect the hearing nerves as well which couldnīt be restored. so now i am running around like a headless chicken, have to contact the doctors in prague, send an authorisation over that my mum can stay with her and sort the necessary bits out, since the doctors wonīt do anything before they have all the required paperwork. she is not in hospital yet, i talked to her today, she is fine and takes it a bit hard of course. everyone keeps on reassuring me that she will be fine, and still i am worried as f***....bless her....
Awww Cin, sorry to hear this. But you know she's in good hands. Afterall your Mum looked after you when you were little. Small consolation I know, but true.
Good luck with it, but she'll be fine and probably a lot better for it afterwards too!

I had this operation last September in Tenerife. Its for a cholosteatoma. My bones had been eaten away as well. I'm now deaf in that ear.
My facial nerve was affected before I had the operation, resulting in facial paralysis down one side of my face. I was lucky, when they did the op the infection had taken away all the outer bone in the facial nerve nut not actually touched the nerve. It had irritated the nerve too much and my face has now recovered 90%. Only family notice a slight difference.
Its very scary because its so near the brain, and they do warn of the brain being infected causing meningitis. Don't panic, I was in a really bad way before my op and I'm fine now. They seem to give you the worse case scenario, as the operations main and prior objective is to get rid of the infection, and the hearing and facial nerve come second.
If you want any information just PM me I'd be more than happy to relay my experience.
Do you know if they are going to do a 'canal wall up' or canal wall down' operation? (are they going to enter the ear down the ear canal or from the back of the ear)
I can give you a name of an excellent surgeon in Tenerife who speaks perfect English, if you wanted a second opinion.

Love to Ida, Cin. And you're the one who'll find it harder, having to be here and not being able to help directly ... I'm sure your mini-Cin will take it all in her stride, and be absolutely fine. Here's keeping everything crossed that this is so
Mini Cin will have to undergo an emergency operation
Cinnamon. As Janet said, you will probably worry more than Ida who I'm sure will get all the love, care and affection that her Gran can give her. You're a big part of her and she will know how you feel and care too. The young are strong and resilient and she'll just want to be over this as soon as possible and get on with her life. Chip has and from her upbeat postings I had no idea she had been through so much. Thank goodness for the internet and phones. Post too, when you send her lovely cards to cheer her. Keep us posted. We'll go through it with you if it helps. Margaretta
