I have been worrying and can't sleep lately - does anyone have any suggestions?
I would just like a few ideas for getting to sleep!!
I have been worrying over a few things lately, wont bore you with my problems, I go to bed feeling really tired and then I lay awake most of the night trying to switch off from my worries. I then finally fall asleep about 6ish knowing that I have only got an hour or so before I have to be up and about.
Being so warm at the moment, drinking hot milk or having a warm bath does not appeal!!
I've always found that cereal helps ... some cold milk! I know it's counter-intuitive, because the sugar (in and on the cereal) should give you a buzz and make you wakeful, but maybe because that's a short-term buzz, it helps you sleep afterwards. Always works for me, and worth a try!
Hope your problems are short-lived, like your sleeplessness

I have suffered with this most of my life! Not for worrying but my brain seems to go into overdrive after about 8pm. I think about a million and one things, some important to me, others just completely irrelevant. Sometimes as I begin to relax I even here voices!!!! Not as crazy as it sounds though, my brain quite independently plays back random parts of conversations I have had over the past month or two, word for word with the exact accent and tone of the person saying it - quite irritating sometimes, like dreaming whilst awake except everything is recalled rather than made up. I have thus far found few things that help. Boring books or boring as hell videos (try google video or you tube for long documentary type programs) sometimes slow my mind down. But any sudden noises and I´m right back to square one. Alcohol at night is known to disrupt sleeping patterns so you could avoid that, same with tea and coffee and all the usual tricks but none of it has much effect on me I´m afraid. If its mainly due to worrying and stress-related, make sure you have discussed all these worries with somebody, anybody in fact. Just telling someone can relieve some of the pressure - it really can.

Totally agree CIM ... alcohol always keeps me awake, and even if I've drunk enough to fall off my stool (i.e. more than TWO glasses of wine), I only sleep for about two hours and then I'm awake and feeling terrible!
Boring stuff helps, but as you say, only while it's there. Once it's switched off, the mind starts up again.
Harry Potter and a big bowl of cereal is a pretty good bet, Gracey!

Harry Potter!!!!!. I have never really understood those films. I mean, I understand the magic, I understand the wizardry, but I have never understood why a ginger kid has got 2 friends.

Thanks to both CIM and Janet! I do tend to bottle my problems up and give everyone the impression that everything is great with the world, so maybe I should talk my problems through a bit more.
Alcohol is same for me, great for a few hours, but then awake again all night!
Reading. I keep dense-reading physics and mathematics tomes to get to sleep with. Give me an exiting novel, and I´m awake until 4am!
Reading both takes your mind off problems and makes your eyes tired at the same time. Try to guide your dream as you go to sleep, else you end up going over problems instead.
