MMM not sure on this one to be honest. BUT it's his kidney, if he wants to swap it for a bag of cash that's his business I guess.
Ethically it throws up a few other issues but if there's a demand, there is always someone willing to supply.

suppose depends on why he was doing it. Was it just for greed or was he so desparate for the money that he would have done anything. For example to save his family from losing their home and being on the streets...

By all means donate a body part for free, but I think this is one of those times we need to be protected from ourselves, and selling our body parts should not be allowed at all.

Well it's not something that I would do but at the same time I would not judge someone else if they decided to sell a kidney. It's their body and their choice and none of my business. I also think if more people adopted this attitude then we would all get along a lot better. I'm talking in general here and not about on the Forum.
Becoming a "living" donor for family/friends is a fabulous gift, however in my opinion, the sale of organs is treading on dodgy ethical ground. Provision of organs in this manner, whilst great for the donor (on the money front), and for the recipient (on the health front), then leaves "poorer" people needing donor organs in a situation where they are effectively priced out of the market. Would it then lead to relatives of organ donors demanding "cash for kidneys"? If you look at blood donation in the UK compared to the US, it is a safer system utilised here because there is no financial gain. There have been many incidences of infected blood products in the US because of their system of payment, leading to "undesirable" donations. This is of course only my opinion

£24,000 for just one kidney? And i've got two healthy ones and can get by on one?
As long as there is a general asesthetic involved, not too much pain, no history of kidney problems in the family (can't have a problem later on in case I have to buy one, as the price will have shot up by then) I certainly do think it's worth thinking about.
Would anyone offer me more than £24k for my HUSBANDS kidney? Come to think of it, he has a few other body parts going spare - i'll make a list and get back to you........
