Robber gets his just deserts!

2 gentlemen went into our Homebase store in Belfast yesterday, made a purchase and stole 2 hatchets. Minutes later, they returned with the hatchets and an attempted robbery took place.

From what I gather, there was lots of shouting threats and waving of the hatchets but this is where it gets interesting. One customer had his young daughter with him and she started to get hysterical. The customer, seeing his daughter's condition, had had enough. He lifted one of his heavy decking pavers and smacked the nearest robber over the head with it.

Surprisingly, the robber did not go down, but the blow was enough to induce a copious flow of blood and the would be robbers fled empty handed leaving behind some A1 quality CCTV video and a large DNA sample, all over the floor!!

I can't wait to see the video

This is a cut and paste from my local paper, you'll enjoy it:

Passers-by hold robbers in shop raid drama Apr 10 2007

by Neil Hodgson, Liverpool Echo

TWO people jumped on suspected armed robbers as they left the scene of a crime.

The passers-by sprung into action when they saw a teenager and an older man leaving the general store.

Police today said they had arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 49-year-man man after the armed raid at 8.20pm on Sunday.

One of the raiders needed treatment at Fa-akerley hospital.

---------------------------------------------------------------------

What wasn't mentioned at the time was that one of the passers by was actually the owner of the shop..... and he and his mate are bouncers!

I believe the 49 year old got well and truly mashed up.
