I currently live in the UK but seriously looking to relocate with my three kids. I have to be honest and say, I have been intending to do this for many years and move to mainland Spain, BUT due to the "all year" tourism, feel that a business in Tenerife would be better.

I did have a club in Spain many years ago BUt this proved to be a total disaster, being about 100 yards from the main part of town, resulting is NO BUSINESS!

I would be grateful to hear from anyone who runs a business in Tenerife, in particular, who have moved form the UK to learn if the overall experience was good, whether their quality of life has improved, etc...I also need to consider schooling for my three kids (14, 8 and 5 years old) ... I suspect that it isn't going to be as easy as contacting Endesa and getting them to come and replace it :(

The meter is old and only goes up to 9.999 units.

The house has been rewired and also a new feed installed.

I am only contracted for 3 kw which is way too low and also although the bills are paid by direct debit, the actual bill is in the name of someone who has been dead to over 20 years.

I also thought it may be helpful for people who have not yet left, but are planning on making the move.

Many people end up "de-registered" from the UK completely. They close all bank accounts, credit cards, doctors, dentists, voters role, and then end up struggling to reopen things when they go back. Some people end up going back fairly quicky as well, for all kinds of reasons.

We are still registered everywhere, as Tom still works contracting in the UK. However, for us, the one mistake I think we made, was to sell up completely, and not retain a small base in the UK. We can still re-buy, but not on the fantastic mortgage deal that we had, as it was a really good older product, and was portable to anything else we may have bought.

I think this was really the only thing that with hindsight we would do differently.

I am looking at doing winter work in Tenerife, im not too bothered about traveling on my own! Have wanted to travel for some time now and at this moment i feel is the right time to start looking.

I currently DJ in nightclubs in Brimingham. The type of music i play is mainy House and Electro

I also do Mobile Discos. have been doing them since the age of 16, started off doing friends parties then moving onto corporate weddings events. So i have a musical knowledge of all party music aswell as my 'club music'

Also i have worked in Wetherspoons and my Dads pub not so long back so i have experience in bar work and waitoring.

Few questions.
What are the chances of getting work in Tenerife during the winter season ?

Does the atmosphere keep going throughout the winter?

Is there anyone you could put me into contact with to try and assure myself a job before i get there.

What sort of area in Tenerife should i be looking to work in?

What sort of time should i be looking to travel to find work during winter?

I'm looking for some advice for a friend of mine who isn't online.

He has been offered the job of maintenance man on a small complex in Silencio, but has been told he must be fully legal.

I've told him that he will probably have to be Autonomo, and that he would also probably have to have some sort of Liability Insurance, but that's as far as i can advise him.

His duties would include pool cleaning, gardening, general maintenance, and cleaning of the complex. He has experience of doing all these tasks. All tools and cleaning products etc will be provided.

Does anyone know what he would require to make himself fully legal to undertake this job. He has been told the job is his if he wants it, as he has been doing lots of odd jobs on the complex for years, but he needs an idea of costs involved to set himself up as self employed.
