Johnny Vegas is on Radio 4 at 10.30 this morning introducing a programme about entertainers in Benidorm and the Costa Blanca who are struggling to get a living, perhaps there are similar on Tenerife. The trailer says that Johnny is worried about his own position.
No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.

The problem is half the entertainers are still doing the same old tired acts that they have been doing for years. The ones that are moving with the times are getting the work.Tourists get sick of seeing the same old boring acts. Most should have hung up their microphones years ago.Variety is the spice of life!![]()

Quite agree, but when we were in Benidorm last year visiting friends many of the entertainers there have 2 or 3 different shows, so it is not as boring! (apart from one ex tenerife comedienne whose show was identical to what she did here- could prempt what was coming next).
Much better, varied entertainment there.

The trouble is many think that they can go on doing the same old act for years and don´t bother learning any new material. Being a good entertainer doesn´t mean just going out for a couple of hours each night and singing a few tunes. It involves a lot of work learning new material to keep your act fresh and interesting. Maybe that is why a lot are finding it hard to get work. I know some acts that are still doing the same show they did 20 years ago! We get a lot of repeat customers in Tenerife and they want to be kept entertained with new material. Its like any job, you get out of it what you put in!!

On the other side, i know of acts out here that have a 'following'.
There are tourists that come out here that will follow a act or compere, and spend the majority of their holiday frequenting whatever bar the particular act happens to be in.

We used to sell stuff off in the supermarkets before it passed its sell-by date.
I think the economic downturn is effectively echoing us with regard to these stale acts...
Linking this to Caroll72's post on wages going lower, hopefully the wheat will bid farewell to the chaff before wages and conditions start improving...
And they can all get jobs as cleaners...
More competition for Caroll72...![]()
