I have a large hard drive on my new laptop and have some questions about partitioning

Hi I am waiting for a new laptop to arrive and it has a 350g hardrive.

It seems very large and I wondered if it would be better to partition it and if so is this easy to do and do i need to buy some software to do it

thanks Annie

As the drive will already have the operating system and other programs on it you will need to use a hard disk partitioning tool.

There are ones you can pay for like Symantec's Partition Magic, which is what I use for partitioning drives on the fly. Alternatively there are several free tools out there like Partition Logic
Just do a google search for disk partitioning tools.

Alternatively if you get stuck, give me a call, my details are in my signature.

vista has its own partion software. Right click computer/manage/storage/disk management/right click c drive and shrink drive to whatever you require. whatever is left, will be another drive name, if not then you can do it yourself.

Why partition it? 350GB is not large by today's standard and you'd not get any performance benefit from partitioning it. Just organise your data efficiently and ensure you have a reliable backup program that you use and have tested it works!
