Computer techie needed for help connecting my satellite receiver to a Vista laptop

I have Technomate satellite receiver hooked up to my laptop via a 9pin null cable & usb adapter (I don't have a 9pin port on my laptop). This worked fine on my old laptop running XP, but not on my new one running Vista?

When I run the program it doesn't find any available com ports, any ideas on how to get this working?

Haven't got a Vista machine to play with to check this out at the moment, but have you tried the add new hardware wizard. if it doesnt detect it automatically, you should be able to add the com port manually.

Thankfully my sis still has xp on her laptop so I've hooked that one up instead. The problem is my serial - usb connector has no vista support, my laptop did pick up the new hardware but installed it as a seperate com port to the ones the program wanted to use (please don't ask me to explain further cos I don't know).

Long term I'll need a new connector that has vista support but short term, my receiver is patched with the latest fw so once I've realigned my dish tomorrow we have free Showtime

The guy was going on holiday to Australia and then disappeared! JKF is a very helpful site but I wish JKF stopped demanding donations with menaces!!

Another site you may not be aware of is this:-

    www.satlightning.com

its in its infancy but will be a good site I am sure

Just had a look down the hardware store & they have 'budget' meters in for 100 euro's Stuff that when they only cost £5 on ebay!
