IMHO both are as has been stated " little Britains " but of course in the sun.
If you are looking for somewhere to live it will depend on what you intend to do, whether you have children, need public transport , doctors etc .
Whilst both Golfs offer supermarkets , bars etc they are not really IMH the best places to live.You need to find somewhere more cosmoploitan away from Los cris and PLDA.There are many places some already mentioned El medano and Los Abrigos b ut also consider Las Galletas , Costa del Silencio as these offer a good mix of nationalities and facilities.
I for opne would avoid like the plague Callao Salvaje as i have lived there and hated it, however where you live and like is apersonal thing so just take peoples views on board.
renting for 3/6 months is usually a good idea if you are unsure as then you can move if you dont like it quite easliy and may find your " favorite " place when you get here.Good luck
